Certified Master Dealer®

This program began in 2001 and has become the core of NIADA’s used motor vehicle dealer training program. Dealers, who have demonstrated their commitment to this industry and who support the principles and ethical business standards that the designation of CMD® represents, are the leaders who have chosen to become a part of this respected group of professionals.  Upon completion of this program, participants can look forward to using new knowledge that will sharpen their business skills and to receiving increased respect from business associates, customers and peers.

During the four day session, successful strategies in the following areas are addressed.

  • Business Management
  • Merchandising
  • Financial Management
  • Business Planning
  • Human Resources

Each of these topics is presented as an instructional module in a very, relaxed interactive learning environment. An assessment is administered at the end of each module to determine the participant’s mastery of the information presented.  A passing score must be obtained in order to receive credit for that module.
Northwood University in Midland, Michigan developed the CMD course in collaboration with NIADA and awards 4 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) upon successful completion of the course.

Evaluations from the November 2006 class indicate that the program is well worth the time and money spent. As Kenny Loveless, a veteran of the industry from Manassas, Virginia stated, “…cannot imagine why any dealer---regardless of their experience or years in business would not want to take this course.  An absolute no brainer to help you run your business more efficiently and increase profitability.

Continuing Education for Re-Certification

All Certified Master Dealers® must complete 12 hours of continuing education within a 36 month period to retain their certification.

NIADA approved educational activities and training will allow all CMD graduates to fulfill this requirement.

During the NIADA National Convention there will be more than 12 hours of education offered.  Three strands of topics---Buy Here Pay Here, Leadership, and Retail. The retail topics will address the core subjects presented in the CMD training: Management, Merchandising, Financial Management, Human Resources, and Business Planning. However, all of the sessions will meet the continuing education criteria.
